Winding and jamming: The bottleneck for shredding throughput

In recycling lines, shredding is the first step. Large plastic purgings and mixed industrial solid waste cause recurring problems: material winds around the blade shaft and stops the machine, large hard blocks are difficult to feed, blades wear quickly, and production stops repeatedly. Many machines handle uniform material but fail on real-world mixed, tangled, and hard feedstock.

Yuzhuo Machinery (煜卓机械) is based in Bowang, Ma'anshan — known as China's “home of cutting tools”. The company combines local tool-making heritage with European solid waste shredding technology. Its focus is solving the winding and jamming problem. It supplies shredding equipment for plastics, chemical fiber, and large industrial solid waste.

Blade design and overload protection

Many shredders fail because of blade geometry, overload protection, and blade material.

Yuzhuo's core advantage is in-house blade design and manufacturing plus complete machine design. The company optimizes from the cutting head up, targeting real-world winding, jamming, and hard-material problems.

For filament and film materials that wind easily, Yuzhuo uses a patented sawtooth blade with a reverse spiral structure. Low speed and high torque shear the material, reducing winding risk from the start. An intelligent overload protection system automatically reverses and alarms when winding or hard-object jamming occurs, recovering within seconds and reducing downtime.

For large, hard purgings, current sensors dynamically adjust output torque. The machine automatically increases force on harder material, so large blocks can be fed without pre-cutting. Blade life is extended. 

Drawing on Bowang's local tool industry, Yuzhuo offers Cr12MoV and SKD-11 wear-resistant blade materials, balancing crushing capability and long-term operating cost. Non-standard designs are available for plastics, chemical fiber, agricultural film, large waste, and hazardous waste.

Three project cases

• PC purgings: A plastics modification company previously used hydraulic shears to cut large PC purgings before crushing. The process was dangerous — material could fly and injure workers — and inefficient. After switching to Yuzhuo's shredder, efficiency improved significantly and worker safety improved.
• Tire cord thread: Waste tire cord thread is highly tough, tear-resistant, and high tensile strength. Rubber is elastic and extends under pressure. It winds around the main shaft and blades during shredding, and output size is hard to control for downstream grinding or pelletizing. Yuzhuo used an anti-winding blade with a custom single-shaft shredder 1000, plus a feed belt conveyor, crusher 800, and air separation unit. The line produces 500 kg/h, meeting the customer's pre-pelletizing requirements.
• Municipal waste bag opening: Municipal waste arrives bagged. Manual bag opening before sorting is labor-intensive and hazardous. Yuzhuo used a detachable blade head design, with blade tip, blade, fixed blade, and moving blade coordinated to open bags without damaging the recyclables inside. A dual-shaft bag opener 1400 provides capacity of at least 14.5 t/h, replacing manual bag opening and stabilizing feed to the downstream sorting line.

Product range

Yuzhuo offers single-shaft, dual-shaft, and four-shaft shredders, plus shredder-crusher combination units and film crushers. It supplies standard single machines and complete custom crushing stations. Business covers plastic recycling, chemical fiber recovery, agricultural film processing, large waste, industrial hazardous waste, and RDF preparation.
From equipment R&D and core blade manufacturing to on-site commissioning and ongoing service, the company provides one-stop support. Equipment serves domestic recycling factories and is exported to multiple countries.
